A while back on   the net , people started to share photos of a " baby platypus " looking lovely as netherworld .

We did adebunking , but as always , the posts came round again , and you probably ca n’t go on Facebook right now without scrolling past a relative read   " wait AT THIS . It is a infant PLATYPUS and I DEMAND you LOOK AT IT " .

Sometimes , the piddling affair was wear a cowboy chapeau . And sometimes a monocle .

Others took it as a good omen .

Several mega - viral tweets were delete in ignominy , because , as they in all likelihood got sick of being informed a thousand times a minute :   It ’s not a baby platypus , it ’s a rock .

The adorable babymonotremewas in reality an endearing baby statuecreated by artist Vladimir Matić - Kuriljov(check outhis other awing artworks here ) .

So it ’s a great sculpture , but woefully not material . Baby platypuses – which by the way are called puggles , like baby echidnas , also monotremes – do not look like this . They are , however , still cute as hell , and even squishier than the viral Wiley Post would have you trust .

This next one is actually an echidna but at least it is n’t a rock .

While we ’re here , let ’s share some facts about these undeniably weird and rattling beast .

They ’re one of only a few poisonous mammalian ( males have venomous prodding on their back provender ) , have a bill that notice electrical fields , and lie eggs .   They also nurse their youthful , despite not having nipples . They ooze Milk River out of their mammary gland ducts , where it gather in the folds of their skin . The babies then suck it up from their fur , or lap it up from their folds .

We are also recede them at an alarming pace , and want to roleplay tight . But that fact is n’t fun .
