SAG-AFTRA is making sure its members continue to show solidarity duringHalloweenamid itsongoing strike, meaning it is unlikely that stars will dress as Barbie, Wednesday Addams and other popular characters.
Since the holiday is quickly approaching, the union recently released a set of guidelines for its members to follow when choosing their costumes.
“This Halloween, we wanted to make sure our members don’t inadvertently break strike rules and have put together some quick tips on the dos and don’ts for costumes,” a post on the union’swebsiteexplains. “Check them out and have a spooktacular Halloween!”

As for the reason for the guidelines, the union wrote, “Let’s use our collective power to send a loud and clear message to our struck employers that we will not promote their content without a fair contract.”
SAG-AFTRA represents “approximately 160,000 actors, announcers, broadcast journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers, news editors, program hosts, puppeteers, recording artists, singers, stunt performers, voiceover artists, and other media professionals," according to itswebsite.
Ryan Reynoldswas among the first to speak out about the advisory notice in apost on X, formally known as Twitter. “I look forward to screaming ‘scab’ at my 8 year old all night. She’s not in the union but she needs to learn,” Reynolds wrote.
The notice comes a few days after the SAG-AFTRA announced that recent contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP)failed to pan out.
“It is with profound disappointment that we report the industry CEOs have walked away from the bargaining table after refusing to counter our latest offer,“their announcementread. “We have negotiated with them in good faith, despite the fact that last week they presented an offer that was, shockingly, worth less than they proposed before the strike began.”
