A cruise ship passenger has reportedly died after being detained for threatening behavior onboard a Royal Caribbean vessel heading to Mexico.
Before this, he had allegedly physically attacked crew members and threatened other passengers in a drunken rage.
Virgil had reportedly been traveling with his fiancé, 7-year-old son and other family members at the time of the incident. He was also seen “chasing” crew members and a passenger “down the hallway” on the ship and shouting out racial slurs and threats of violence, reported Fox 11.
Mikhail told the outlet that Virgil began making threats after he got off an elevator on the wrong floor of the ship.
“The gentleman that was drunk said that he was going to kill us and then he started chasing us down the hallway,” he told Fox 11, referring to himself and a crew member.
Mikhail added that the crew member “locked himself in one of the towel rooms” to escape.
“I was kind of scared, I’m stuck in this hallway,” he added.
Security on board the ship detained Virgil using bear or pepper spray, towels, handcuffs and zip ties, Fox 11 reported. The outlet also alleged that security used a sedative on him, citing a family traveling on the ship.
Virgil reportedly died an hour later. His cause of death has so far not been released.

A family member said Virgil’s behavior on board the ship was uncharacteristic of him. “He didn’t deserve to die over it,” the relative told Fox 11.
The Royal Caribbean ship continued its journey to Ensenada in Mexico following the incident, Cruise Radio reported.
