I’d rub my face red and raw with abrasive scrubs, or use harsh peels that would make my skin burn immediately after application. My efforts always ended with dry, sensitive skinirritated, so eventually, I stopped experimenting with exfoliation altogether. But then, I sawCourteney Cox, 59, rave about Dermalogica’sDaily Microfoliant Exfoliator: “It really cleans your skin and it also exfoliates, but doesn’t dry you out at all,”she told PEOPLE. “I think that’s one of the most important things.”The actress first discovered Dermalogica while on the set ofFriends, and now, more than a decade later, she partnered with the brand. Long story short, this impressed me: Surely, Cox uses the best of the best skincare products. So, if she was using ones from the brand, I knew they had to be the real deal. The rice-based powder has a bunch of beneficial ingredients in its formula, including salicylic acid and AHAs, as well as calming ingredients like colloidal oatmeal and allantoin, which help “polish skin to perfection,” according to the brand. In a nutshell, it smooths and evens out your skin tone, helps minimize bumps, and brightens your overall complexion.Plus, it’s gentle enough for daily use. Cox uses it twice a day, while I prefer to use it every other day — it’s all about finding what works best for you and your skin. The most important thing, though, is using the product correctly.Alyssa GrabinskiTo start, pour around a half-teaspoon of the product into a bowl or your hands. Then, add water and mix until it foams up like a sudsy soap. Unlike other exfoliators, it doesn’t feel like there are a lot of loose bits of powder or rough chunks left over — honestly, it shouldn’t feel like a scrub at all. The goal is for it to be “not gritty, but a foamy consistency,” as thebrand shared in a TikTok demonstration. From here, all you have to do is rub it onto your skin for a solid minute and then rinse.Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant Exfoliator, 2.6 OuncesDermalogicaBuy Now for $66It requires minimum effort, but has mega results: While using the product, I’m always amazed at just how soft and light it feels on my skin. Yes, I still feel a few bits of powder, but I think that’s more operator error than anything. Perhaps, I just need to add a bit more water (which is what you should do if it’s still feeling too powdery). But even so, it looks light and fluffy like a cumulus cloud, and it’s exactly what I picture said clouds feeling like.Afterward, my skin always feels squeaky clean, but not dehydrated or stripped. And when I run my hands over my face, it’s soft, smooth, and supple — kind of like the feeling of freshly shaved legs. In conjunction with my moisturizer, my skin also looks more radiant, healthy, and fresh. The only negative things I found have nothing to do with the product itself, but rather the packaging: I like to keep my skincare products in my shower, and I find that I have to be extra careful not to get water inside the bottle. I also noticed that after traveling with the exfoliator, some of the product started to spill out.I have the full-size version, which retails for $66. I’ve used it for a few months, and it still feels like I have around half the bottle left.
