In the September 13 , 1959 version of the Chicago Tribune Sunday Magazine Evelyn Zemke wrote an amusive spell about her vision for woman of the house of the future . Below is an excerpt from the first part of her story .
“ Call a service military man , ” my husband always says when one of our appliances decline to run .
Sounds bare enough , does n’t it ? Well , it is . At the very worst , in all probability only the washer , dryer , dishwasher , and goggle box would give up one day . But what about the homemaker of the future – say of the class 2000 , when the electronic era will be at its peak ?

I can just figure myself in her place – quick to set about another care - costless 24-hour interval sitting around reading a science fiction thriller while the gadgets do all the work . Already the electronic brain in my kitchen is busy preparing and serving breakfast .
My husband , arrive at the mesa exclaims , “ Pizza ? For breakfast ? ”
“ I push the button labeled BACON AND EGGS , but- ”

“ There ’s a wire crossed somewhere . Call a service man . ”
After doing so , I cast away of the refuse in the electronic disposal unit and pack the dishes in the ultra - transonic dishwasher . Then , After advertize the push button which bulge the electronic vacuum cleaner , I go out to the garage to set the timer for our radar check lawnmower .
“ Ki - Lolo - Lolo ! ” Sounds like Fifi , our pet poodle dog .

My daughter , standing in the doorway , calls , “ Mom ! The cleaner is hoover Fifi ! ”
