You probably have intercourse that Iowa grows a lot of corn . You probably know that theField of Dreamswas filmed here . Youmightknow that Ashton Kutcher is from Iowa , and youmightknow that Buddy Holly ’s fateful plane crash was in Iowa . But you probably do n’t have it off that Iowa is home to one of the unknown attraction in the U.S. It ’s the World ’s Largest Truckstop , site on I-80 between Iowa City and Davenport . Just how gravid , you ask ? Well , it sits on 220 Acre , which is about twice as large as Disneyland . Only 75 acres are developed at this point , but the potential drop for enlargement is there .
The I-80 truck block did n’t lead off as such a behemoth , though . It opened in 1964 , when I-80 was still in its infancy , or at least in its toddler stages . It was just a tiny livid building beat slap in the eye of a corn field " “ two diesel ticker and a restaurant .
It grew as I-80 grow and now employs 450 multitude . The township the hand truck stop calls home , Walcott , has a population of about 1,500 , if that tells you anything . I ’m sure people from outdoors of Walcott work there too , but it goes to show you that it ’s a pretty huge employer in the area . ( Lots of crazy exposure after the jump ! )

I ’ve been roadtripping a lot lately , so I ’ve had the pleasure of bump off up the I-80 motortruck stop two or three time in the past two weeks .
