“ 150 Irigoyen , you said ? ” The innocent interrogative sentence made by an apparent cab driver has become a esthesis in Argentina after the driver ’s hack radio step in with the signal from the International Space Station and popped up live during NASA ’s live broadcast of a spacewalk .
Russian cosmonaut Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitri Petelin worked overnight on Tuesday tomove a radiatorfrom the ISS ’ Rassvet mental faculty to the Nauka science module , spending a total of seven hour and 55 mo outside the space station . During their spacewalk , the ISS pass off over Argentina several time . It was 12:30 a.m. ET when thing started to get weird .

At that time , reporter Manuel Mazzanti was watching NASA ’s alive programme of the spacewalk on the agency ’s official groove when he suddenly find out a voice with an Argentinian accent mark . It appeared to be a taxi driver on his radiocommunication confirming whether he had understood an address correctly : Irigoyen ( or perhaps Yrigoyen ) 150 .
The hindrance was loud and open , but only last three second . The NASA TV bestower reacted quickly and apologized for the radar target , saying it was a “ hot mic . ” you may see the mo this happened in aclip Mazzanti posted on Twitter .

¿ Alguien me puede explicar esto ?

There are still many unanswered questions about this funny incident . First , where did the signal number from ? The taxicab driver , delivery worker , or courier involved has n’t turn any information to the public , so we can only theorize .
As for where exactly the address in interrogation is in Argentina , that ’s complicated . It could be Bernardo de Irigoyen or Hipólito Yrigoyen , and there are dozens of avenue , boulevards , and streets with those names in Argentina . For example , I ’m an Argentinian expat , and I live at Bernardo de Irigoyen 476 for the majority of my puerility .
There ’s also an avenue called Hipólito Yrigoyen in Montevideo , the capital of Uruguay , so we ca n’t rule out that the taxi driver was Uruguayan and not Argentinian . But impart the location of the ISS at the moment of the incident , it ’s more likely that the signal came from the responsibility of Buenos Aires in Argentina .

Twitter has , as usual , presented various theories . Some say speech name to abakery at Avenida Hipólito Yrigoyen 150 in Moron , a city in Buenos Aires responsibility , although I conceive of it would have been closed at 1:30 a.m. local time . Other read the reference referred to ahouse locate at Irigoyen 150 in Villa Martelli . Overall , it ’s out of the question to calculate it out with such few clue .
The second question is : What happened ? It appear that somehow , a local radio signaling interfere with the ISS ’ VHF or UHF signal . It ’s potential that the hack driver was using a frequency assigned to NASA or Roscosmos , which might be why their analogue signal ended up where it should n’t have . Again , I ’m only speculating .
The ISS was flying 267 mile ( 430 kilometers ) above Argentina during the incident , which is quite a lot even by VHF standard , but there are n’t many obstacles beyond the atmosphere . It could have also been interpose with a place on Earth . In the end , the NASA presenter confused what happened with an open mic , and the spacewalk keep job as usual .

Gizmodo reached out to NASA for comment on Thursday but did not receive a reply .
Argentinians , meanwhile , welcomed the incident with pridefulness , adjudge that they were “ the best country in the world ” and singing the nation ’s World Cup anthem . Others put forward that the incident was “ simply Argentina , you would n’t understand . ”
