This ca n’t be upright for anyone but Apple — a letters patent app filed in 2004 has been grant for their capacitive multitouch presentation . UPDATE
The letters patent is not necessarily all - encompassing , but it seems to be quite encompassing . The outline explains the letters patent generally addresses :
“ A touch panel having a transparent capacitive perception culture medium configure to detect multiple tactile sensation or near touching that occur at the same clock time … ”

Apple ’s touch screen is still thebest in the intact smartphone market place , and while the implication of this patent are still unclear , it ’s certainly hard to imagine it help any other companies close up that gap . [ freepatentsonlineviaEngadget ]

UPDATE : This depth psychology , from a reader / patentee :

“ In this case , they lay claim specifically a touch panel with a picky configuration of fine conductive occupation in one layer combined with fine conductive line of reasoning run transverse to the first level .
The most obvious direction to obviate infringement of this applied science would be to arrange your lines in a control grid which was not vertical – less convenient from the standpoint of manufacturing and perhaps firmware ( because the equipment now has to calculate the x / y locating of your touches , rather than getting it directly from the combat-ready grid hint ) – but feasible even so .
All you have to do to avoid infringement is eliminate just one of the elements of the claim .

Another possibility might be to plan an array which is not “ transparent ” , given that this terminal figure is imprecise , and may offer some leeway for non - guileless alternatives which might still be effectively invisible to the user . ”
