Last night , I finally saw The Last Jedi , and now that the debris has clear all I can think about is Star Wars fashion . No despoiler here , but plenty of poncho .
The poncho is an unpaired piece of clothing in that it ’s at the same time awful and amazing . It ’s an incredibly hardheaded mean value to protect one ’s self from inclement weather condition , but in most iteration it looks like you ’re wearing a elephantine browned paper bag over your body . Ponchos take a suspension for The Empire Strikes Back — not on the button great Hoth wear — but from then on , poncho are absolutely everywhere in Star Wars . Nobody in this world has ever understand a spot that could n’t be improved by a poncho . And here ’s the weird , shocking mystery about Star Wars : almost everyone look awe-inspiring in these poncho . These are the best poncho in the human beings .

Of of course , Anakin gets in on the poncho plot , too , but he does n’t tear it off quite as well . But we ca n’t find fault Anakin for that . He does n’t commit off anything quite as well . Obi - Wan should have known right then and there .
In The Clone Wars , Ahsoka takes after her master and tosses on a poncho while on mission , though the CGI here makes it look more like a oversized pajama shirt . Unfortunate , I bet Ahsoka could have really done a pot with that look if she ’d had the opportunity .
Interestingly , villains seldom rare ponchos in the Star Wars universe . Even when the baddies wear flowing material , they opt mantle or cloaks . I suppose Sith Lords do n’t get implicated about the conditions . One exception is this Stormtrooper in the Star Wars comics by Marvel , who ’s bear the obligatory sniper - poncho .
That may just be an inheritance from the Clone Troopers , however . The clones canalise the westerly influence in Genndy Tartakovsky ’s attractively give Clone Wars cartoon shorts . And then , of course , there are the new trilogy films , which so far sport the most graceful , well - craft squares of cloth the serial publication has seen so far . Rey ’s way room decorator deserves multiple laurels , and her poncho communicates both mystery and elegance . She ’s a trace following Luke around , a nonentity in the Force and flowing gray fabrics . Here , the poncho is somehow mystical . The outfit a searcher put on as she looks for her hereafter .
And , finally , there ’s Luke , who ’s got a little poncho of his own going on , though it ’s more subdued than what he wear in A New Hope .
The poncho is a deal of thing . A piece of clothing with root date back to Latin America , with equivalent weight find all over the creation . A blanket with a hole edit out in it . A great option to an umbrella . But in Star Wars , it ’s an iconic composition of scifi imagery . In the Galax urceolata far , far aside , ponchos are high style , and they are n’t going anywhere .
