Fitz ’s denial approaches pathological grade , until he ’s lastly looking straight at Ward , plead for his life because he ca n’t believe this world is n’t his friend . Oops . Of of course , Fitz and Simmons will probably be fine — this show would n’t kill off both of its lovable nerd characters in one go . One , maybe . Both , never .

Fitz has been conditioned by SHIELD , but especially by Coulson ’s pressure that the squad is a family and that you look out for your friends — the antonym of Garrett ’s nihilistic every - gentleman - for - himself school of thought . Coulson emphasize in this sequence that he ca n’t order his people to do anything , because now they ’re just “ vigilantes , ” as Fitz puts it . They ’re doing the veracious thing , on their own self-assurance .

Meanwhile , what the heck is going on with Raina ?
