SinceGoogle launch Keep yesterday , the doubtfulness on everyone ’s mind has been , “ how is will this measure up to Evernote ? ” Well do n’t think the fledgeling is go to suddenly oust the elephant in the way as the best service for interweb jotting . It ’s just means too barebones .

Google Keep is lightweight - tight almost to a fracture . By Google ’s own description it ’s meant to be a substitute for your sticky musical note . It ’s imagine to be an unfettered and simple room for you to get momentaneous ideas from your mentality into a single localization . Maybe it ’s just because Google Keep is new , but it ’s missing a hatful of very canonical features that make Evernote such a joy .
Keep doesn’t play nicely with others
Google Keep is designed for your eyes only , whereas Evernote has lots of societal sharing selection . Google Keep lets you scribble down your idea and hold on to it , but if you want to share that theme , tie-in , image ( or whatever ) , you ’ve got to copy and paste it on your computer . Want to share it with someone else ? Too bad .
The Android app allows you to portion out your bank bill , but woefully , it ’s not as clean as sharing on Evernote . Evernote generates a public inter-group communication that can be shared so you recognise the experience is the same for everyone . The greenback sharing on Keep ’s Android app just dumps whatever was in your bank note into an email or a tweet or a Facebook post . That ’s technically partake , but it would be nice if you could share Keep notes with a radio link the way you share a public Google Document .
Keep is terrible for storing links
This feature article is n’t unique to Evernote — Everything from Instapaper to Pinterest will seize content and store it for you . That makes its absence in Keep even more noticeable . rather of clicking a quick save linkup and moving on , I ’ve suffer to play up a link in my web browser app and copy it over to Google Keep . Then I have to go back and grab the schoolbook and replicate that over too . What a pain in the ass .
Interestingly , this is easy using the Android app than it is on your calculator . By using the “ … /share ” action that ’s baked into basically all Android app you may send a link with a headline and a screenshot to Google Keep . That there ’s no way to do this from your computer using a browser app elongation or a apt bookmark bar link is absurd .
Keep won’t import images from the web

Evernote lets you organize your notes into unlike notebook whereas Google Keep is just a vast torrent of your idea organized by date . This is a big problem . Let ’s guess you ’re hop to keep runway of a bunch of inquiry for a news story , full term composition , or workplace project . Capturing estimate is only footstep one . organise related thoughts so that you may make sense of them actually makes your lifetime easier . Yeah , well , in Keep you ca n’t do it .
Keep doesn’t have a way to work offline
Both Evernote and Keep ’s pappa effort have desktop client that you could use to jot matter down from your computer when you ’re offline or simply not using a web web web browser . Keep is stuck on the cyberspace .
Bottom line: Keep is wonderful at what it does but it doesn’t do much
Google Keep and Evernote are dissimilar animals that are honorable for different things . It ’s possible that Google Keep is n’t meant to be anything more than the simplest of notepads . But most people will obtain this notepad limiting . In an exertion to make Keep lightweight and simple , Google impart out a peck of glaringly obvious feature that make Keep just feel bare . Hopefully it ’ll get some of the plumbing from other Google products that ’ll make it more utile down the line . If Google decides to enthrone in the overhaul tenacious term , you comfortably believe these are canonical features it will have to provide .
