Isolated from the outside world, Socotra has grown to be both the most strangely beautiful and the most unique place on planet Earth.

SOME 150 statute mile EAST OF THE HORN OF AFRICAand 250 mi south of the Arabian Peninsula lies the island of Socotra . Alone amid the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean , the Yemen - check island has remained unco set apart from the outside world for millennia .
And left in its own little house of cards , it has uprise to see like no other place on Earth — something that can be said about few and fewer places as the twenty-first - century check mark on .

Indeed , a third of the tiny island ’s flora and fauna ca n’t be chance anywhere else on the satellite — but that may be change . After centuries of practical closing off , Socotra opened its first airport in 1999 . Since then , tourism has grow by a broker of 30 . Hotels and highway have gone up while flora and fauna populations have started to vanish .
